Children, at the School Christmas Party

Daphne was the Head Mistress of Kelling School for thirty-two years from 1948 to 1979 when she reluctantly retired. At her presentation Ron Coleman, who had four children at the school, said how grateful everybody was to her for all she had done. He spoke of the enormous love she had for the children, the school, and all it stood for, and he said that she could always get the best out of a child. There was no way you could slack when Mrs Hanlon was around!

Salthouse actually had a school first, and the Kelling children had to walk to Salthouse!
Kelly's Directory 1854 says of Salthouse " . . .Here is a National School for this and the adjoining parish of Kelling "
the entry for 1864 reads " . . .Here is a small School attended by about 40 children and supported by subscription"
the entry for 1868 " National School for this and the adjoining parish of Kelling.
Then in June 1875 Salthouse parish was united with Weybourne, Salthouse and Kelling School Board, and Salthouse children, whatever their age, were obliged to walk to Kelling every day.
