Eric Smee BA (hons) - Curriculum Vitae
What Have I Done?
I left school as soon as legally possible to take up an apprenticeship as a photographer with Photoprecision of St Albans and to study at Watford College of Art, under Professor Scott-Bush.
When finished I joined De Haviland Small Engines as one of three public relations photographers. The organisation employed around thirty other photographers at six sites, we were based at Leavesden and given the freedom to travel between sites cherry picking the best jobs.
In 1966 I joined forces with a partner and together we formed Argus Commercial Photography, this gave me the freedom and the money to spend time on fine art photography. This work was driven by a need to express more than the image but strangely I never exhibited, so for many years my work was only seen and exchanged with other artists who came to my studio or home when they required my help.
More recently I lectured in Photography and Digital Imaging at The College of West Anglia until ill health forced me to retire, but not until after my colleagues nagged me into EXHIBITING.
Returning health allowed me to fulfil an ambition and study for a BA (hons) in Fine Art at Norwich School of Art.
